Wounded Veteran in Arizona Gets Keys to New Pulte Home

PulteGroup's Built to Honor Program Salutes Purple Heart Recipient and Family
TUCSON, ARIZONA – May 6, 2016 - A wounded veteran and his family received the keys to their new mortgage-free Pulte home today, as a crowd of cheering well-wishers waved flags and celebrated their new beginning together. The new home was donated by PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program in collaboration with Military Warriors Support Foundation.
U.S. Army Veteran Specialist David Moreno, his wife Monica and their two children burst into tears upon seeing their completed new Pulte home for the first time. “As if this beautiful home wasn’t enough, then we open the door and it is completely furnished,” Monica said as her children squeeled with delight upon seeing the custom touches in their bedrooms. “We are so blessed, just so blessed to have this dream of a new home come true.”
An enthusiastic group of elected officials. including Pinal County Supervisor Anthony Smith, Davis Monthan AFB Color Guard, Patriot Guard Riders, the Avra Valley Fire Department, PulteGroup employees, and trade partners were on hand to greet the family as they arrived to the dedication ceremony for their new home. The Old Brass Band played patriotic music as the family arrived.
The new home, in Red Rock Village by Pulte Homes north of Tucson, was customized for the Moreno family with special touches in every room – such as hand-painted murals in the kids’ bedrooms reflecting their interests (David’s room with a UA Wildcat and Mariah’s room with a Pegasus).  Pulte employees also helped build a custom barbeque and playset in the backyard, in addition to fully furnishing and designing the home.
“This effort would not be possible without the more than 50 trade contractors and partners who were committed to building the Moreno family a beautiful new home,” said Scott Wright, PulteGroup Arizona Division president. “We are all so humbled and honored to be a part of this special day. The company’s Built to Honor program is a way for us to show our gratitude for the many sacrifices our nation’s veterans make for us all.”
Last year, Pulte and Military Warriors surprised the Moreno family with the news they were awarded a new home in front of a crowd of enthusiastic University of Arizona football fans. While the family helped select colors and finishes, they had no idea the 2,118-square-foot home would be fully furnished and that they would be greeted with a hero’s welcome when receiving the keys.
Specialist Moreno joined the Army National Guard in 2003 and was soon after called to active duty. While serving in Iraq as an infantry gunner on a Humvee, he was hit by an IED explosion that caused a myriad of combat-related injuries. The 31-year-old veteran, who also served on border patrol, has been honored with multiple awards including: Purple Heart, Army Commendation Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal.
"Military Warriors Support Foundation is excited at the opportunity to work with Pulte Homes. They have incredible hearts for our heroes and we are honored to partner with them,” said General Leroy Sisco, CEO & Founder of Military Warriors Support Foundation.
